If you don't know, it is about time you do....I have the greatest friends. Under the leadership of Mary Ann McMullen we have created the Summer of Recreation 2007 (affectionately known as SuRec.) This comes naturally and with flare from Mary's brain because she is a professional recreator. Not only do we have amazing activities but we have our own listserve to discuss these fun activities days before and days after the events.
SuRec is not only fun but it is official... since we have our own t-shirts. We kicked off SuRec with an opening campfire where we chatted, roasted food over the fire, sang, and my own idea.......burned a personal item that we needed to let go!!! The campfire was rained out but we persevered and took the party to our headquarters (Mary's house.)

- Me saying goodbye to my own personal itemOur second adventure was to BioBlitz. What is BioBlitz? That question can be answered by the most reliable source on the web: Wikipedia. Wikipedia says "A BioBlitz is a 24-hour inventory of all living organisms in a given area, often an urban park." Our BioBlitz was at Rock Creek Park, which is known for more infamous reasons. SuRec went to the park and participated in a bonfire, saw a deer, and told ghost stories. We also went to a planetarium show at the nature center. In the nature center, I found a children's playroom where I encouraged my friends and I to read stories, put on plays, and dress up. The staff thought it was so funny that they took pictures to post on their website. The planetarium show was great. Our Park Ranger was intense and a past astronomy professor at a local college.
- SuRec members spelling out BioBlitz like we were cheerleaders. Go Team!!!
