Weekend in Richmond City

I love taking weekend trips.  I enjoy getting away from our usual weekend schedule, get to know a new place, and give ourselves the chance relax a little more. Richmond is only a few hours drive from DC.  It is a charming, slightly run down, lovable city.  We had lunch at a place called the Dairy Bar, which won the the best milkshake in Richmond.  White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle milkshake...yum!  Dinner was spent at a small, tasty Ethiopian restaurant.  Food really does make a good trip into a wonderful trip.

We started out our morning at the Hollywood Cemetery.  This is an old Cemetery built on a hill near the James River.  It is the final home for two American presidents, General Pickett, Jefferson Davis, and a reported vampire. It was a beautiful day for a stroll.

With our Weird Virginia book in hand we were ready to learn about the odd stories of this cemetery.

This is a headstone of a young child that was buried in the cemetery.  An iron dog was placed beside her to watch over her.
This pyramid was built for the confederate soldiers.

After lunch,we planned on going to St. John's church were Patrick Henry gave his famous speech and said "Give me liberty or give me death."  As we got closer to the church, we started to notice that the streets were lively. We were looking for a peaceful church and we came across this:

That night we made our way to the Landmark Theater to watch Wicked the Musical.  Of course, it was wonderful.

Belated Birthday Post

I turned 30 on March 1st.

I thought it was going to be a difficult age to turn.  I thought it would be a day (or week leading up to it) full of fear.  Fear of getting older, having more wrinkles, etc.

None of these fears or feelings came.  It was a nice birthday celebrated with friends.  In fact, I haven't given the number 30 much of a thought.

Am I well adjusted or in complete denial?
