Deep Creek Lake

A group of friends and I spent our Memorial Day weekend at Deep Creek Lake. Our house could not have been better situated on the beautiful lake. The house featured a hot tub, Swedish sauna, a creepy attic, a personal dock, a swing by the dock, a deck, a tire swing, basketball hoop, pool table, and lots of outdoor space. These amenities made for a great weekend full of fun and relaxation.

Friday night we drove to the house, ate dinner, and told ghost stories in the creepy attic by candle light. I, of course, told the death of a woman that still haunts her friends (Mary- seriously, you need to follow the light.)

The backyard

Saturday was full of games, kayaking, and a trip to the Super Walmart where we bought the famed Dora kite. A few weeks ago, Mary tried to fly her kite (which sucks). A little three year old next to us was flying a Dora the Explorer kite with ease. We mocked Mary's kite and vowed to find a Dora kite. Wayne bought the kite and we surprised Mary!!! She was not as excited as we were.

We also went to Funland where Trent and I hit the jackpot with the game Deal or No Deal. Then we played a round of mini golf. Unfortunately, Funland was having some troubles with their lights so we played a lot of the game in the dark. I will not complain because I ended up getting a hole-in-one!!! However, Trent did beat me by two strokes.

Look at all those tickets!!

Sunday we went to the local branch where we learned (by a professor of such things) how to save honey bees. This was somehow linked to being with our families in the temple. I did not follow that one.

I took a great nap on Sunday afternoon. Then Mary came back with a surprise - materials to make a slip n' slide. Nothing beats soaping yourself up with Dawn to speed down a tarp and end up in the mud!!!

Monday we went to Swallow Falls State Park. There are two beautiful waterfalls in the park. We took many, many pictures and played in the water. I tried out my new bright yellow water shoes. They made it easy for me to run and climb on slip rocks, play in the water. I think I will get them in every color. No really, I think I will.

Hmmm...

On the drive home, we were desperately searching for food. However, every restaurant we came to was closed. You know what they say "Never get too hungry, tired, angry, or lonely." Well, we had two down and we were close to a third....until...we saw this sign. We laughed for so long. I mean, really, we were in the middle of nowhere Maryland and this is what we find. Unbelievable.

How fun! Sounds like the perfect weekend. I'm still looking for some water shoes for me but the kids picked out some for when (and if) we ever get water in our river. Collin is so excited for you to come home! Just please pick a night you can sleep in his bed with him. He was crushed that you didn't spend the night with him last time.

It looks like a fun trip! You are always finding adventure, or should I say that adventure finds you? Whichever... :)
