Maple Festival

We are lucky enough to have one of Trent's best boyhood friends living nearby in Charlottesville.  This means that we get to spend fun weekends visiting them and their adorable little boy.  A few weekends ago we accompanied them to a Virginia maple festival.

Looking on the map the location seemed to be not too far from Charlottesville.  What I did not expect was the topography we would encounter.  Switch back after switch back going up the mountains (yes there are mountains in Virginia) made a quite nervous.  Soon I had to shut my eyes as we were very high with no railing.   After what seemed like forever we made it to the valley and I was quite taken with all the fun names of the streets like Windjammer Lane, Hug Hart Fort Lane, Vinegar Hill Road, and my personal favorite - Getta Way.

Soon we got into the small valley town and worked our way through the festival.  When I say "work", I mean "eat."  There were such country delicacies as fresh, fried pork rinds, BBQ sandwiches, maple donuts (so amazing!), maple covered peanuts, and maple candies.  The maple donut was a winner. Soft, sweet, and warm.  Our friends young son stole an extra and started to double fist the treat.  Soon he seemed to have a sugar shock and fell down, still holding those donuts.

Classic Southern Sign

Pork Rinds - that is gross.

So happy!!!!

Thanks Maple Festival!  Thanks Johnson Family!
