4th of July Weekend

The week before the 4th of July Trent and I were visiting some of our friends. They were discussing a weekend trip they were going to take soon. Trent and I both felt a longing to hit the road. We both love taking road trips. The windows down, music turned up and belting out to the lyrics, and finding the best food in a town are just a few reasons it is so appealing. I took off an extra day for the long weekend and we went to Charlottesville, VA. On the way down we stopped by a great burger place and a giant roller skate. Charlottesville was beautiful. We especially enjoyed their downtown mall. The mall is an outside pedestrian only area that has restaurants, a movie theater, a theater, and an amphitheater.

I wonder if Carol is looking for her lost roller skate
The next day we visit Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. The home is beautiful and is perched on a large hill. As much as we admired the home, we both felt uneasy about the fact that Jefferson fought against slavery but he himself had 200 slaves and did not even free them when he died. This lead to some good philosophising.
When we got home from Monticello, our friends Maggie and Brandon stayed over at our house. They were our first house guests as a married couple! In the afternoon, we had a BBQ on our patio and played games. Then we watched the fireworks from the Air Force Memorial. This ended up being a great place to watch the fireworks because you could see other firework shows all around metro area. It was lovely!
I am including some pictures of our patio. We have made good use of this extra space with our little BBQer.

This is the path I take every day to get to our cute apartment!
