The next day we visit Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. The home is beautiful and is perched on a large hill. As much as we admired the home, we both felt uneasy about the fact that Jefferson fought against slavery but he himself had 200 slaves and did not even free them when he died. This lead to some good philosophising.
When we got home from Monticello, our friends Maggie and Brandon stayed over at our house. They were our first house guests as a married couple! In the afternoon, we had a BBQ on our patio and played games. Then we watched the fireworks from the Air Force Memorial. This ended up being a great place to watch the fireworks because you could see other firework shows all around metro area. It was lovely!
I am including some pictures of our patio. We have made good use of this extra space with our little BBQer.
