In the East Coast LDS singles scene there is something called Duck. When you say "Duck" everyone knows exactly to what you are referring. You are talking about the biggest gathering of LDS singles east of the Mississippi. It would make an intriguing documentary. Here is your teaser.... the characters are 800 tanned, smart, good-looking LDS singles. The scenes take place on a beautiful beach with grassy sand dunes and in gorgeous beach homes with mixed-sex roommates where the honor code has been seriously modified. The plot thickens when you add dance parties, late night hot tub adventures, and people's shifting eyes that are perusing who to talk to next. Mix in some flirty banter with a few semi-deep conversations and you have a blockbuster.
I truly do love the Outer Banks. This year I found myself feeling very relaxed at Duck and enjoying my good friends. Together we climbed a lighthouse, did some mighty fine car singing, saw monster trucks, and visited the Wright Brothers Memorial. It can be fun to meet new people and flirt at Duck but this year I mostly appreciated true friendship and real conversations about the gospel, life, sharks, and giving flirting advise to JM. It is truly in meaningful relationships that we find joy. Thanks to all of you that made Duck real this year.

Mandy,
Though I do hate Duck and therefore wasn't able to make it this year, I am glad to hear that someone could enjoy the absurdness ;)
Now, after being out of town at some other superior (west coast) beaches... it seems I have missed a lot. Including, but not limited to you distributing our flirting secrets. Nice. Can't wait to hear all about Duck in person... I am sure there are more non-public stories to be told.
Mand, you explained Duck so well...I am really glad that I was there to experience it with you and analyze everyone after the parties :)
Your blog is magical. Thank you Mandy. You do great things.
Hello? Am I allowed to post here even though I don't live on the east coast, have never experienced a duck (roasted or otherwise), haven't seen you in about a million years, but have driven thru ARCO?
I think that counts for something. :) Yes, it's me, and if you will allow me to still be your friend, I would be forever in your debt. You look great, you sound wonderful and I'm glad to see you haven't lost your touch. Can you guess who I am?
Merk-ster..... are you Angela?
